The approach to obtain this deal is to leverage Air Canada Aeroplan Points. Air Canada charges 90,000 Aeroplan Points each way to travel on a non-stop flight from Canada to India.
The question becomes, how can we quickly earn 180,000 Aeroplan Points? Read on as we walk you through a quick example.
By no means is this the only strategy, but this is a quick review of one of many strategies to approach this problem. We would argue, this is the mid-range strategy, a medium effort on spend and a medium effort on annual fees.

American Express Aeroplan Reserve
The American Express Aeroplan Reserve has the following sign up bonus:
- Earn 60,000 Aeroplan Points for spending $6,000 within 6 months
- Earn 5,000 Aeroplan Points for spending $1,000 each month for the first 6 months
It’s important to note that these points can be accumulated together. If you spend at least $1,000 per month for the first six months, you would have earned at least 90,000 Aeroplan Points.
In addition to 90,000 Aeroplan Points, you will also earn 1.25 miles per dollar spent. For spending $6,000, you will earn at least 7,500 Aeroplan Points.
Together, with this single credit card sign up, you should be able to earn 97,500 Aeroplan Points.
The annual fee of this card is $599.

CIBC Aeroplan Visa Infinite
The CIBC Aeroplan Visa Infinite has the following sign up bonus:
- Earn 10,000 Aeroplan Points after your first purchase.
- Earn 35,000 Aeroplan Points for spending $1,000 within the first 4 monthly statements.
It’s important to note that these points can be accumulated together. If you spend at least $1,000 per month within the first four months, you will earn 45,000 Aeroplan Points.
In addition to 45,000 Aeroplan Points, you will also earn 1 miles per dollar spent. For spending $1,000, you will earn at least 1,000 Aeroplan Points.
Together, with this single credit card sign up, you should be able to earn 46,000 Aeroplan Points.
The annual fee of this card is $139, however, it is waived for the first year. So your annual fee for this card should be $0.
American Express Business Edge
The American Express Business Edge has the following sign up bonus:
- Earn 55,000 Membership Reward Points after spending $5,000 within the first 3 months
- Earn 10,000 Membership Reward Points after spending $1,000 on office supplies, electronics, transportation or gas within the first 3 months
- Earn 1,000 Membership Reward Points after spending $3,000 each month, for the first 12 months
It’s important to note that these points can be accumulated together. Also, let’s ignore the third bullet point, the number of points required is too few for the amount you need to spend. Instead, let’s assume this promotion will earn 65,000 Membership Reward Points within three months for spending $5,000.
In addition to 65,000 Membership Reward Points, you will also earn 1 point per dollar spent. For spending $5,000, you will earn at least 5,000 Membership Reward Points.
70,000 Membership Reward Points can be converted to 70,000 Aeroplan Points.
The annual fee for this card is $99.
